Madaa Creative Center and the Palestinian Counseling Center celebrated the launch of the first scientific research prepared by the women's group at Madaa Center entitled “The psychological effects of house demolitions and arrests in Silwan”.

The women community leaders worked on the research for more than three consecutive months. They began by identifying the research problem, reviewing previous writings, interviewing people affected by demolitions and arrests, gathering and analyzing information to write and refine the research and then presenting it in the Madaa Club.

During the presentation, Reema Shweiki and Rana Nashashibi from the Palestinian Counseling Center and Ms. Sahar Baydoun, Deputy Director of Madaa, gave speeches expressing their pride in the achievements of the women who worked on the research.

Ms. Muna Samreen began by presenting the research where she encouraged the women present to work on such initiatives and expressed her self-confidence and people’s trust in her after starting this initiative.

Ms. Wafa Bamya then talked about the pain and fear in women after the loss or arrest of one of their sons or after the demolition of their home or having their home exposed to cracks.

Mrs. Haifa Abbasi explained the subject of the research and how they worked on it, and their visits to support the women who suffered from losses and to conduct research.

At the end, Ms. Nadia Qaraeen presented the results of the research and the recommendations reached through their work on the research.

This research was carried out as an initiative for women entrepreneurs who joined one of the Empowerment and Leadership groups within the project “Our Life is our Future” funded by the Italian Foundation Coppi, through which women received a variety of proficiency training in leadership and influence, community development, and local initiative.

It is mentioned that the group of the entrepreneurs is a group of housewives, each of them went through the experience of losing their home, son, husband or family member, the idea of establishing the group came as they wanted to support other women who have been or may be subjected to similar experiences.

The group developed a community emergency committee to fill many gaps and provide grassroots protection and support to the people of Silwan who suffer from political, social and psychological problems.

The group includes eleven women from several neighborhoods in Silwan, they are Obeida Farhat, Alia Abu Sbeih, Dalal Al Awar, Nadia Qaraeen, Muna Samreen, Wafa Bamya, Haifa Abbasi, Mai Sarhan, Hanan Masouda, Kholoud Al Awar and Aida Al Rishq.
