Madaa Creative Center - Silwan recently organized a number of awareness, artistic, educational and human rights activities in the three branches of the Center (Wadi Hilweh, Ein Al Loza, and Batn Al Hawa) in Silwan, with the participation of tens of children, such as an activity on the Balfour Declaration, violence, rights, traffic accidents and artistic events, and an activity for the children of prisoners and martyrs.

 

Balfour Declaration

Madaa Center recently organized educational events on the theme of the “Infamous Balfour Declaration”, where the staff explained to the children about the fateful promise given to those who did not have something they did not deserve. They also screened a short film summarizing the content of the letter written by Balfour in 1917 and discussed it with the children, in addition to making a mural with the words of the children about the Balfour Declaration.

 

An Activity for the Children of Prisoners and Martyrs

Madaa Center organized an event for the children of prisoners and martyrs in the presence of Mrs. Sawsan Ghaith from the Bridges of Love (Joussour Al Mahaba) group, where she brought a cake with phrases in support of the prisoners. In addition to fun activities carried out by the clown, in order to draw a smile on the faces of this group of children.

 

Workshops on Violence, Rights and Traffic Accidents

As part of the activities offered by Madaa for children, the center in all its branches dedicated a day to talk about the phenomenon of violence and its impact on family and society in general. During which the children learned about the concept of violence and made banners with slogans to stop political and social violence. They also watched a film showing the effects of violence.

In addition to a workshop entitled “My rights” where the staff talked with children about the rights of a child under the international conventions, and another workshop on “traffic accidents and prevention”, to avoid risks, and reminded children how to cross the street safely, and the safe places to play away from the street.

 

Artistic Events

The artistic activities continued in the branches of the center, which included the recycling of damaged and old products such as ice cream sticks, cartons and plastic containers to form various artistic shapes. In addition to making faces out of cartons, and free drawing to express the feelings of children, as well as activities of accessories, and making animal models and talking about them. They also made frames for children's personal pictures, decorated them and hung them in their homes. They used clay, wool and varnish paper to color, in order to encourage children to love art and creativity through the development of beautiful and artistic taste.
