Madaa Creative Center - Silwan has completed a training program organized for women in the field of women's accessories and jewelry industry, as part of the project “more professional job opportunities”.
The training included a theoretical and practical part, in which women were trained to recycle old ornaments by separating them and refashioning them. Trainer Hanadi Al Abbasi said: “In practical training, women learned the jewelry industry in its various forms, including bracelets, earrings and necklaces. They also learned the industry of key chains by means of “playdough” and learned how to integrate embroidery with jewelry.
Hanadi added: “In the theoretical section they learned about the types of gems and their characteristics and the name of each stone, as well as their features, such as that it pulls the negative energy away from the human body, where this is considered to be medication in alternative medicine. They also learned about silver alloy, the fundamentals of jewelry making, and the market’s need of this field.”
One of the women participated in an exhibition with the products she designed during the training period, another woman became a trainer in this field in other centers, and some women have made careers in this field.
The training was 40 hours long and was attended by approximately 20 women. It aims to promote the role of women and empower them economically.
It is noteworthy that the project “more professional job opportunities” falls on several training tracks, including psychological and social support for participants, trainings on project management and organization and personal skills, in addition to professional training such as jewelry making, recycling, and the production of soap and wax, and it will be put into practice throughout the year. It is implemented by Madaa Center on behalf of the Union of Sawa Sawa Institutions and organized by the Palestinian Foundation for Empowerment and Local Development (REFORM).
