Madaa Creative Center organized an open day for the women of Silwan on the occasion of “Prophet Mohammad’s birthday and the International Human Rights Day”.

At the beginning of the open day, Ms. Sahar Beydoun, deputy director of Madaa Center, welcomed the participants from Silwan. Then she spoke about human rights that are assured by all international norms and laws, and which are mainly reflections of the true image of Islam and the morals of Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him.

During the event a movie about human rights was screened, it highlighted its foundation and how it arose and its details. The fundamental rights of the United Nations’ Convention on Human Rights were also presented and discussed. A documentary photography produced by Wadi Hilweh Information Center about the violation of rights in Jerusalem was presented (violation of the right to worship, housing, mobility and execution of Jerusalemites), where Palestinians in general and Jerusalemites in particular became devoid of all rights ensured by international laws and norms.

A number of the participants presented stories of what they have experienced and their difficult circumstances which reflect the Jerusalemite deprivation of their most basic rights guaranteed by the laws.

At the end of the open day, the participants suggested to form a female committee that includes all neighborhoods of the town to educate the women of the town in particular about the fundamental rights ensured by international rights and norms, and to enable them to react and intervene in time of need.
