Madaa Creative Center ended its summer camp “I love you Silwan 9” with a march that roamed Wadi Hilweh neighborhood and the village and a festival that took place in the “Wadi Hilweh” playground.

The march began from “Wadi Hilweh” playground and marched in the streets of the neighborhood down to the Umayyad palaces area that is adjacent to the southern wall of Al-Aqsa Mosque, where they launched balloons with the Palestinian flag colors, and chanted slogans for Jerusalem, Silwan, and Al-Aqsa. Children who participated in the march, who numbered about 300 children aged (5-15 years), raised Palestinian flags and flags that read “I love you Silwan”. Also they wore uniform T-shirts that read, in Arabic and English, “I love you Silwan”.

The march was concluded by a festival that took place in Wadi Hilweh playground. It included a display of different passages for the children of the summer camp, (music, Dabke shows, plays, songs and gymnastics). Bearing in mind that children were trained for these passages during the summer camp at the center.

Also members of the "Dandara" Band of Madaa Creative Center trained a group of children on Rap music, and they presented distinctive performances during the festival.

Majd Gaith, director of the summer camp, states that this is the ninth consecutive year of the camp “I Love Silwan” in the town of Silwan. It is one of the (free) camps in Jerusalem in the light of the difficult economic conditions experienced by the Palestinian people, in addition to the lack of stadiums and public squares in Jerusalem.

Events included in the camp, “I Love Silwan”, were games as well as recreational and awareness activities. Its objectives were centered on identifying the Palestinian identity and the promoting children’s affiliation to their town and land Silwan. It also refutes the Israeli narrative of their eligibility of the town, in an entertaining manner that suits the age of the children.
