10 kilometers (6.2 miles)
Start: 9.30 Bethlehem Checkpoint
Finish: 11.30 Wadi Hilweh Playground, Silwan

We will start by the Bethlehem Checkpoint (300) and run along Hebron Road. Around 5 kilometers, we will be joined by children of Silwan, pass the Jerusalem Cinemateque and continue up to Jaffa Gate / Bab el-Khalil. We will continue along the Walls of the Old City, down to Damascus Gate / Bab el-Amud, and around the walls, descending into al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan, and ascending again Wadi Hilweh until we reach the playground and tent. The Summer Games have become a tradition children in Silwan talk about yearlong. The Summer Games main donor is BSST (British Shalom Salaam Trust), which has generously supported the summer camps for 7 consecutive years. Other donors for Summer Games 2012 include private donations by individuals (through paypal), and GIZ (Civil Peace Service) Germany.

This year we have finally managed to get a donation to build a permanent shade for the children to play in the playground yearlong. This donation was granted by GIZ, which also donated extra funds for the summer games activities.

Dates: 9 – 15 July, 2012
Number of children: 300
Ages: 5 – 15
Staff (volunteers): 23, of whom 15 youth leaders 16-18

Activities

Summer Games 2012 had 5 days of activities, and an extra day of a trip to a swimming pool in Beth Jalah.

The activities included:

• creative workshops: art, mosaic, music and rap, theater.
• physical/exercise: games at the Silwan pool, sports games and challenges.
• performances/afternoon activity: clown show, rap performance (DAM), film screening, playing in an inflatable playground, parade + children performance (last day).
• Day trip to Beit Jallah with all the children (6 buses) from 9 am – 17.30 pm, to the swimming pool, including entrance fees + food.

Dates: Friday, 18th and Saturday, 19th of May 2012

On Sunday morning, December 11, we will run 10km from Bethelehem Checkpoint (300), to Wadi Hilweh in Silwan. (Approx. route: http://g.co/maps/bswyh)

Who are we?
We are a growing community of runners who have decided to combine our passion for running with our love and concern for the children of Silwan.

Why do we run?
We run:
- for peace
- to raise awareness to the situation in Palestine
- to protest against the violation of children’s rights in Silwan
- to denounce the wall that separates people (and runners)
- to promote sports and fitness

* START 10.00 AM: Bethelehem Checkpoint (300) – Jerusalem side.

* MID 10.45~: Junction of streets Hebron Road and Hamefaked (5km – here we will be joined by children from Silwan)

* FINISH 12.00~: Wadi Hilweh Playground, Silwan

*** Important information:
- Participation fee is a donation of 30 NIS to Madaa. You will get a Run4Silwan T-Shirt before we start, and fruit and drinks in the end of the run.
- Dress code: we kindly request all participants to wear trousers below the knees.
- Please bring with you a bottle of water.
- You can join the run at 4 different points:
1. Bethlehem checkpoint (10.00) – 10 km to Silwan
2. Hebron Road/Hamefaked Street – 5 km to Silwan
3. The New Gate, Old City – 2.6 km to Silwan
4. On Jericho Road, at the junction after the Lion Gate – 1 km to finish

- We would appreciate it if you bring a camera and later send us/post photos.

- In the end of the run there will be a bazaar of Palestinian embroidery by the cooperative of the women in Madaa Silwan.
